Sönmüş hayaller ya da Paris'te bir tutunamama öyküsü

Honoré de Balzac’ın Illusions perdues’sü (Sönmüş Hayaller), Fransa’nın taşra kenti Angolulême’den Paris’e zengin olmak ve ünlenmek için gelen bir gen-cin öyküsüdür. Romanın başkahramanı Lucien Chardon, sanayi devrimiyle hızlı ve kolay zenginleşme yollarının çoğaldığı bir dönemde şanslarını denemek için Paris’e akın eden nice gençlerden biridir. Paris, lüks yaşamı, güzel kadınları ve iş imkânlarıyla dönemin taşralı gençlerinin ulaşmayı umdukları hayalidir. La Comé-die Humaine’in (İnsanlık Komedyası) tüm romanlarının ısrarla altını çizdiği, in-sanların menfaatleri için birbirini yediği ve her şeyin paranın etrafında döndüğü kapitalist bir sistem ve hâkim güç olan aristokratların aşılması neredeyse imkânsız katı kuralları ile karşılaşırlar bu gençler Paris’te. İşte bu yüzden başkentte tutunup bir yerlere gelebilmek öyle pek de kolay değildir. Geçit vermez kapıları zorlamak, taşra kimliğinden vazgeçmek, ahlaki değişimler geçirmek gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Sönmüş Hayaller’in başkahramanı taşralı genç Lucien Chardon’un Paris’te tutunabilme mücadelesinde karşılaştığı güçlükler, geçirdiği değişimler ele alınacak ve Balzac’ın büyük bir kentte bu tutunma çabasını nasıl sunduğu analitik bir yöntemle incelenecektir.

Honoré de Balzac’s Lost Illusions (Illusions perdues) is the story of a young man who moves from the French provincial town of Angolulême to Paris in order to be rich and famous. Lucien Chardon, the protagonist of the novel, is one of the young people who flocked into Paris in order to try his chance in a period during which rapid and easy ways of becoming rich increased with the industrial revolution. Paris, with its luxurious life, beautiful women and business opportu-nities, is the dream of the provincial youth of the time. As insistently underlined in all novels of The Human Comedy (La Comédie Humaine), these young people encounter a capitalist system in which people abuse each other for their own interests, everything revolves around money, and the hard rules of the dominant aristocrats that are almost impossible to overcome. That is why it is not so easy to gain a position and climb the ladder in the capital. It is necessary for the people to open the door that is almost impossible to a new life, to abandon their provincial identity, and to undergo moral changes.In this study, the challenges and changes faced by young Lucien Chardon, the protagonist of Lost Illusions, in the struggle to hold on to life in Paris will be discussed and how Balzac presents this struggle of holding on to a big city will be examined using a analytical method.
