The distribution of symptoms and findings at the time of first admission according to age of diagnosis of 34 congenital hypothyroidism cases followed up in the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology between 1991-1995 was analyzed retrospectively. The mean age at diagnosis was 14.79 months. Seven patients (20.5%) had a family history of goiter, and 10 (29.4%) had a first-degree consanguineous anmnesis. The most common symptoms were lack of enlargement, voice thickness and tongue size, and the most common findings were large tongue and rough face. In this study, the importance of applying a newborn hypothyroidism screening program was emphasized by drawing attention to the advanced age at diagnosis and late initiation of treatment.
